Why print this

This model teaches one of the most useful beginner skills: thinking about print orientation before hitting print. The dog printed legs-down needs supports under its belly and chin. The dog printed legs-up has no overhangs beyond 45° — it prints clean with zero supports and no post-processing.

Before you slice

Rotate the model 180° so the legs point up. This is the only setting that matters. The model was designed to be printed inverted.

No supports. No brim needed. 0.2 mm layer height, 15% infill.

What to expect

  1. Import the STL and immediately rotate it 180° in the slicer (legs pointing up).
  2. Verify in the layer preview that the slicer shows no overhangs requiring support.
  3. Slice at 0.2 mm, 15% infill, no supports.
  4. Print time is approximately 1 hour.
  5. The legs will print in mid-air but they’re short enough to bridge cleanly with good cooling.
  6. Let the bed cool. Pop off the part — it should have a clean surface all around.

If it goes wrong

  • Leg tips not printing cleanly — cooling fan issue, or layer speed is too high on small features. Enable “minimum layer time” in the slicer (10–15 seconds).
  • Part warping during print — clean the bed, add a small brim if needed.
  • Accidental supports added — check that the model is correctly inverted. No supports should be needed in the correct orientation.
