Why print this
A flat print with raised text is a direct test of XY resolution. You’ll see exactly how fine a detail a 0.4 mm nozzle can produce. Drop the layer height to 0.15 mm and the letter edges sharpen noticeably. This model is also a perfect bed-levelling test — a flat object 30 mm tall by 80 mm wide shows any variation in bed height immediately.
Before you slice
Drop the layer height to 0.15 mm for this model. The extra detail is worth the slightly longer print time.
No supports — it’s completely flat. No brim needed either (large flat footprint sticks well). 15% infill.
What to expect
- Slice at 0.15 mm layer height, 15% infill, no supports.
- Print time is approximately 45 minutes.
- Watch the first few layers carefully — if the text detail looks squished on the first layer, your Z offset is slightly low.
- Remove when the bed is cool.
- Inspect the letter edges. At 0.15 mm you should see clean, sharp text. Any fuzziness points to overextrusion or a partially clogged nozzle.
If it goes wrong
- Letters merging or looking fuzzy — flow rate too high, or nozzle partially clogged. Reduce extrusion multiplier by 2%.
- First layer letters not visible — Z offset too low; first layer is over-squished and filling in the emboss detail. Raise Z offset slightly.
- Gaps in the letters — under-extrusion. Check nozzle temperature and flow rate.
- Text barely visible — the nameplate may have been customised to a very shallow emboss depth. Check the model source for the original emboss height.
